South Africa and New Zealand’s State Action Plans for reducing CO2 emissions from international aviation were presented to ICAO’s Secretary General, Dr. Fang Liu by South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Lydia Sindisiwe Chikunga (left image) and Mr. Graeme Harris, Director and Chief Executive of the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (right image).
New Zealand and South Africa’s submissions of their voluntary State Action Plans for reducing CO2 emissions from international aviation to ICAO Secretary General Dr. Fang Liu, brought the number of countries to have done so to a total of 100.
It also means that almost 90% of global air traffic is now covered by State Action Plans.
The ICAO States’ Action Plans initiative for reducing aviation CO2 emissions is part of the wide ranging efforts and measures being undertaken by ICAO and its Member States to mitigate aviation’s contributions to climate. This initiative is one of the most successful capacity-building and assistance initiatives the secretariat has piloted. As part of the programme ICAO supports the plan development, provides training, guidance and tools, and assists with monitoring, reporting and verification.
