Please note that the Conclusions and Presentations of this Forum are available under "Documentation".

ICAO and the World Bank held the fourth in the series of development fora. This forum, which focused on aviation development in the Asia/Pacific region in the context of safe, secure and sustainable air transport, was particularly relevant since 2008 proved to be the most challenging in the history of aviation in the region.

The forum was held in the International Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 14 to 15 October 2008 during the World Route Development Forum (Routes 2008) which was held from 12 to 14 October 2008 at the same venue. It focussed on current challenges such as competition among carriers and their responses to the exponential growth of information technology and competitive strategies in the region. These developments were viewed through globalization; penetrations of international markets; and the shifting of air carriers from a mere competitive advantage in certain areas to an overall competitive advantage. There was also discussion on innovative strategies on capacity management and strategic pricing.

At this meeting of leading experts in air transport in Asia/Pacific, the aviation development focus on Asia and the Pacific involved discussion on issues relating to air transport services as economic catalysts for the region; air transport market access; safety and security challenges; and funding and resource mobilization for civil aviation.
