Joint AVSEC Seminar: Paris (France) 28 to 30 January 2014

Paris (France) 28 to 30 January 2014

More than 85 participants from 25 States, 7 regional and international organizations and 2 members of the ICAO Council participated in the first Joint Aviation Security Seminar organized by ICAO (Regional Offices of Paris, Dakar and Cairo) and ECAC, in the premises of ICAO EUR/NAT Office. Mr Raymond Benjamin, the Secretary General of ICAO, opened the seminar and underlined its importance for intra-regional and inter-regional coordination and cooperation. He also stated the importance of harmonization across regions in the aviation security system, properly protected at global level for the benefit of passengers and goods; that can only be achieved if States and industry work towards a joint approach to address the growing challenges in protecting aviation from unlawful interference.

A wide range of presentations covering several areas, such as capacity building, cargo security and a risk-based approach to security measures, were provided by seminar participants followed by highly animated discussions. The seminar agreed on a series of conclusions which should guide further cooperation.

All participants stressed their will to continue to join their efforts towards better cooperation and invited ICAO and ECAC to organize a similar event next year which will be hosted by ICAO Regional Office in Dakar.
