Paris 1 to 3 June 2015 - The EUR/NAT Aviation Security Group conducted its fourth meeting from 1 to 3 June in the premises of the ICAO EUR/NAT office in Paris. 60 participants representing 21 States and 10 international/regional organizations attended the meeting over 2 ½ days discussing new and emerging threats to civil aviation as well as “classical” AVSEC topics.
USAP-CMA auditor training in Paris
Paris, France 9 to 17 February 2015 – Following the ICAO auditor’s re-certification training which was successfully completed by 21 AVSEC experts in November 2014, an ICAO auditor’s certification course for new candidates was conducted between 9 and 17 February 2015 in Paris.
2nd ASTC Directors meeting in St. Malo
St Malo (France) - On 29 and 30 January 2015 the second meeting of directors of the eight Aviation Security Training Centres (ASTCs) located in the EUR region was conducted in St. Malo following the invitation of the ASTC Toulouse.
ICAO AVSEC auditor’s re-certification course
Paris, France 24 to 28 November 2014 - Two ICAO audit officers from Headquarters Montreal conducted one week an ICAO auditor’s re-certification course to prepare and recertify ICAO AVSEC auditors from Member States in the EUR/NAT regions for the Universal Security Audit Programme (USAP) Continuous Monitoring Approach (CMA) which will be launched in January 2015.
Sixtieth Meeting of the EANPG Programme Coordinating Group (COG/60).
The Sixtieth Meeting of the EANPG Programme Coordinating Group (COG/60) was held in the European and North Atlantic Office of ICAO from 14 to 17 October 2014.
One of the highlights of the COG/60 opening session was an award of Certificate of Outstanding Achievement to the long-standing member of the Group, Representative of the Czech Republic, Mr Ladislav MIKA.
Fal Seminar Paris
Paris (France) 13 to 16 October 2014 – 90 participants representing 25 States, 9 organizations and 16 Air Carriers from the European and North Atlantic (EUR/NAT) Regions attended the first Facilitation Seminar conducted in the EUR/NAT Regions and discussed over three and a half days the wide range of ICAO Annex 9 Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS).
Two ICAO Universal Security Audit Programme seminars
Paris (France) 26 to 28 April 2014 and Moscow (Russian Federation) 2 to 4 June 2014
A total of 125 participants from 21 States attended the two ICAO Universal Security Audit Programme – Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) seminars which were organized in the European Region to familiarize Member States with the USAP-CMA methodology and tools used by ICAO for the preparation, conduct and reporting of USAP-CMA activities.
Joint AVSEC Seminar: Paris (France) 28 to 30 January 2014
More than 85 participants from 25 States, 7 regional and international organizations and 2 members of the ICAO Council participated in the first Joint Aviation Security Seminar organized by ICAO (Regional Offices of Paris, Dakar and Cairo) and ECAC, in the premises of ICAO EUR/NAT Office. Mr Raymond Benjamin, the Secretary General of ICAO, opened the seminar and underlined its importance for intra-regional and inter-regional coordination and cooperation. He also stated the importance of harmonization across regions in the aviation security system, properly protected at global level for the benefit of passengers and goods; that can only be achieved if States and industry work towards a joint approach to address the growing challenges in protecting aviation from unlawful interference.
ATMG/18: Tbilisi (Georgia) 10 to 13 December 2013
Eighteenth Meeting of the Air Traffic Management Group – Eastern Part of the ICAO EUR Region (ATMGE/18).More than 30 participants from eleven States and two international organisations attended the 18 th meeting of the Air Traffic Management Group Eastern Part of the ICAO EUR Region (ATMGE/16) which, thanks to the kind invitation/support of the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia (GCAA) and the Georgian Air Navigation Service Provider “Sakaeronavigatsia”Ltd, was organised in Tbilisi, Georgia from 10 to 13 December 2013.
First meeting of Directors of the ICAO ASTCs in EURNAT Regions: Paris (France) 3 and 4 December 2013
On 3 and 4 December 2013 the directors of the eight Aviation Security Training Centres (ASTCs) located in the EUR and NAT regions conducted their first regional meeting in Paris. A growing amount of ASTCs and the diversity of centres in the EUR/NAT regions teaching ICAO AVSEC courses in English, French and Russian language require excellent coordination. The creation of a regional Directors’ meeting is meant to support cooperation in the Region and to prepare a coordinated input to the yearly global ASTC Directors’ meeting. Professor Galina Suslova from the National Aviation University in Kyiv was elected as chairlady and led this first meeting successfully. A catalogue of joint conclusions was developed and will be provided as EUR/NAT input to ICAO HQ for the preparation of the global ASTC Directors meeting.
Opening of a new ICAO Aviation Security Training Centre (ASTC) in Almaty /Kazakhstan
In presence of the Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Azat Bekturov, from the Republic of Kazakhstan, a new ICAO Aviation Security Training Centre (ASTC) was opened in Almaty, Kazakhstan, by the Regional Director from the ICAO EUR/NAT Office, Mr. Luis Fonseca de Almeida. The Civil Aviation Academy (CAA) in Almaty fulfills all ICAO requirements for an ASTC and received its endorsement in August 2013. During the official opening ceremony of the Training Centre, the CAA Almaty was welcomed into the global ASTC family and the ICAO flag was proudly raised.
Third European and Fourth Global Meeting of CAPSCA: Bern (Switzerland), 21 June 2013
The ICAO European and North Atlantic Office supported and participated in the Third European Meeting of Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public health Events in Civil Aviation (CAPSCA-EUR/03) and the Fourth Global CAPSCA Coordination Meeting. One of the objectives of the meeting was to develop a clear understanding of the roles and involvement of all stakeholders, especially those from States and international organisations, public health and aviation sectors, as well as public and private organizations.
